MIME email messages combine plain text, HTML, and other components such as images and documents. Most email messages sent are as MIME messages. With Relevant Tools it is easy to create MIME messages.
To begin the process click on MESSAGES, at the top of the screen and the Messages screen will be displayed, as shown below.
On the Messages screen click on the CREATE MESSAGE button, shown above, to display the Create Message screen, shown below. Enter the name of your message in the Message name text box. This name, is the name, you will use to select the message when you send it in a mailing. By default, the From Name and From Email Address will be automatically inserted from your account information; however, you can override this by simply entering a name and an email address in the From Name and From Email Address text boxes, respectively. Next, enter the subject of the message in the Subject text box.
Now, you can either enter the text portion of your message or upload a text file that contains your message, shown, in the top portion of the image, below.
Note: If you upload a text file it must be a file with a file extension of .txt – not a Word document.
And⁄Or, you can either enter the HTML portion of your message in the HTML text box or upload an HTML file that contains your message, shown, in the lower portion of the image, below. One more thing, notice there is a check in the checkbox for UTF-8 encoding; placing a check mark in this checkbox usually produces a better resulting message so, do not be afraid to use this option. Finally, click on the CREATE MESSAGE button, at the bottom of the screen, to create your message.
After clicking on the CREATE MESSAGE button the screen below is displayed; this screen allows you to test your message. You should ALWAYS send a test message before sending a mailing. So, send a test message to yourself and then try to send a test message other individuals because email messages can look different through different email applications on different computers. Finally, if at all possible, try testing the email message through a web based email program.
Below, is the HTML version of the email message that was created, in the example, above. There are several advantages to using an HTML message. To begin with, you can make your message visually more interesting and engage your reader with the use of fonts and colors. Remember to make it tasteful and don't get carried away with anything. Additionally, the message can contain links to make it easy for your customers to learn more about the message content. Finally, you can use images to convey information.
Below, is the plain text version of the email message that was created, in the example, above. There are advantages to using plain text. The text will be seen by the spam filters and may have better deliverability than HTML depending on the content and format of your message.
Using both plain text and HTML in an email message makes it consistent with the email messages created by email applications, such as Micorsoft Outlook or Apple Mail because these email applications create MIME messages by default.
